To obtain an order of protection you and the person you are filing against must be at least 18 years or older and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be married
  • Divorced
  • Living together or have lived together
  • Be related by blood
  • Have a child together
  • Be a parent or guardian filing on behalf of a child under 18 years of age
  • Be dating
  • Have dated in the past

And you must believe you are in immediate danger of physical violence. You must be able to explain what the abuser has done to you; physically and/or threats of physical violence.
