An arctic cold front is set to blast through eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas late tonight into Thursday morning, according to US National Weather Service Tulsa OklahomaTemperatures will be dramatically colder behind the front with life threatening wind chill values possible from Thursday morning until noon on Friday.

A Wind Chill Warning and Advisory has been posted for the area for these dangerous conditions. In addition to the dangerous cold, there will be the potential for some accumulation of snow and a glaze of ice Thursday behind the front.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for portions of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas from 4 a.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Thursday for snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches with local amounts of around 3 inches. Wind gusts to around 40 mph will create brief periods of near blizzard like conditions due to blowing snow. Roads may become slippery across the Advisory area.

Road crews have started to pretreat roads in advance of forecasted ice and snow this holiday weekend. Bridges, hills, and major intersections and roads will be treated first.
