[ARCHIVED] Energy Emergency Alert Level 2

electric substation at sunset

At approximately 6:20 PM, the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) declared a return to an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 2.

An EEA Level 2 requires SPP to direct its member utilities to issue public conservation appeals. This EEA2 alert will remain in effect until further notice to mitigate the risk of more widespread and longer-lasting outages. Some conservation recommendations for customers are as follows:

  • Turn down thermostats to 68 degrees.

  • Close shades and blinds to reduce the amount of heat lost through windows.

  • Turn off and unplug non‐essential lights and appliances. Avoid using large appliances.

  • Businesses should minimize the use of electric lighting and electricity‐consuming equipment.

  • Large consumers of electricity should consider shutting down or reducing non‐essential production.

GRDA continues to be in contact with representatives of all our customer utility systems, to provide updates on changing conditions. If you have any questions regarding status of the electric system, please contact your local electric provider and be sure you are following them on social media.

SPP Statement:

At 6:20 p.m. Central time on Feb. 17, SPP declared an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 2. The alert will remain in effect until further notice.

We continue to urge all homes and businesses throughout our 14-state region to conserve electricity, but are not directing any interruptions of service at this time. The public should follow their service providers’ directions regarding local outages, tips for conservation and safety.
